Connecticut’s Best Par-3 Holes

Hearst Connecticut Newspapers has compiled a list of “our favorite 18… par-3 golf holes on public courses in our region.”  It’s a solid rundown, with quotes from local pros expounding upon each hole’s features.

Full text of the article can be found here.

1. Candlewood Valley CC, New Milford, No. 4, 165 yards

2. Fairchild Wheeler Black, No. 17, 188 yards

3. Fairchild Wheeler Red,No. 8, 193 yards

4E. Gaynor Brennan GC, Stamford, No. 13, 228 yards (blue tees)

5. Grassy Hill CC, Orange, No. 6, 145 yards

6. Great River Golf Club, Milford, No. 11, 175 yard

7. Griffith E. Harris GC, No. 11, 198 yards

8. H. Smith Richardson, No. 16, 150 yards

9. Laurel View CC, Hamden, No. 12, 157 yards

10. Longshore GG, No. 11, 207 yards

11. Oak Hills Park, Norwalk, No. 15, 205 yards

12. Orange Hills CC, Orange, No. 10, 207 yards

13. Oxford Greens, No. 2, 218 yards

14. Richter Park Golf Course, Danbury, No. 3, 155 yards

15. Sterling Farms GC, Stamford, No. 8, 200 yards (blue tees)

16. Tashua Knolls GC, No. 6, 192 yards, flanked by two bunkers

17. Whitney Farms, No. 15, 183 yards

18. Woodbridge CC, No. 3, 208 yards

Obviously this is a subjective list, but a couple of notes:
-Richter Park’s #3 is a great hole, but I think #5 is much more difficult.  The view is breathtaking and the elevated green is two-tiered and guarded by two massive bunkers.  There’s a lot of room to miss on #3 (obviously not short), but you’re in a lot of trouble if you do so on #5.
-Don’t love #8 on Sterling Farms, which, while challenging, is adjacent to the driving range (and thus an enormous ugly net and stray range balls).  To me, #5 is infinitely more interesting, particularly from an aesthetic point of view.  The hole is no slouch either – it can play 230 yards from the tips.
