The Country Clubs of Harrison, NY’s Katherine Frankel opines on the inordinate number of “well-known” country clubs located in Harrison, including Willow Ridge, Brae Burn, Century, Country Club of Purchase, and Old Oaks.

For the most part, Frankel’s column offers banal observations and generalities – for example, “the stability and kinship offered by club life is one of their major attractions,” and that “one of the prime advantages of membership is the sporting facilities and sporting opportunities the clubs offer.”    Well, duh.

Sifting a bit further does lead to a couple of interesting insights about these clubs – of some worth to those who are curious about memberships.

For example, Frankel describes Willow Ridge as “low-key,” “relaxed” and “child friendly.”

She terms Old Oaks the “grand dame” of Harrison’s clubs, featuring “an 18-hole golf course that has hosted the USGA’s US Open Qualifying Tournament several times, 10 Har Tru tennis courts; an Olympic-size swimming pool;  a 10 acre driving range; 16 resident suites; 5 cottages; locker room facilities; massage facilities; and card rooms.”

Again, none of this is the stuff of front page, banner headlines, but there are some decent tidbits.
