Kiawah tests concept of “Three Hour Golf”

Haters of slow-paced golf rejoice: help just might be on the way.

Starting tomorrow, golfers at the renowned Kiawah Island Golf Resort will have the option to play in “no longer” than three hours. And yes, that’s for 18 holes.

The resort is testing “Three Hour Golf” through August 31, and will allow golfers to book these quicker rounds at designated times. Kiawah’s press release does not go into specifics on what will occur to actually make these rounds faster (other than more frequent starting times) but it does suggest slower golfers avoid being a part of the test.

The full press release can be found here.

It will be interesting to see how “Three Hour Golf” works out and whether other courses will attempt similar initiatives. Clearly the game is overly time consuming for many, and this
is a small, but potentially significant experiment.
